OK, I understand you ARE interested in working from home and perhaps in becoming a distributor starting your own business, joining a network marketing business opportunity.

I want to make sure you UNDERSTAND first of all that a network marketing BUSINESS opportunity is no different from any other BUSINESS: it requires entrepreneurial, organizational, marketing skills as well as the determination of a LION to succeed. Statistics say that 90% of the new start up businesses fail within 5 years. So, why are people surprised if many entrepreneurs who joined a network marketing business fail? Why should a network marketing business be any different? In my own experience, I can tell you that if you are willing to LEARN all the SKILLS that are required to run a business than your chances of success are higher than starting a traditional business and the rewards can match the effort you put in into your business.

My family always had traditional "sole-trader" sort of businesses. They have had employees during the years that drove them crazy. They had to pay rents for the building from which they operated their business. They had to be physically present in the shop and MONITOR and SUPERVISE their staff (who otherwise would have not done a thing). I would have never ever accepted to do a "traditional" standard business.

In a network marketing business you are a distributor of somebody else's products (the manufacturer). You will have a LICENSE to both RETAIL the manufacturer's products and to build your own sales organization via SPONSORING/RECRUITING. Now, many people have doubts about the "recruiting" side of network marketing. If you have doubts too, then you can simply just focus on retailing the products of the network marketing manufacturer and that's it.

Network marketing business is NOT an employer-employee type of relation where you get a fixed salary every month, no matter what. Unless you produce results, you go nowhere. But if you can find a method, a system that works for YOU, then the results can be interesting.

The product manufacturer is NOT your employer because you will be an INDEPENDENT business owner who will have a LICENSE to sell products according to certain rules dictated by the manufacturer.

I have read many blogs on the web that attack various types of network marketing business opportunities. My personal experience with network marketing is with Herbalife, so I can only comment on what I have been doing as an Herbalife distributor.

Another thing I want to make clear is that whatever network marketing business opportunity you join, make sure you read the manufacturer's "rules of the game". Protecting the manufacturer means protecting your business as a distributor.

I also urge you to COMPARE the costs and potential financial rewards of setting up a network marketing business against setting up a traditional shop (like a bakery, a butcher shop, a convenience store, a franchising business). In the latter case you will have staff to pay, rents to pay for the premises you will use, a warehouse to store products etc. Make sure you UNDERSTAND exactly how much you have to sell just to BREAK EVEN with those costs (costs that you will not have with a network marketing business).

But here are some of the good news about network marketing: because of the way the commission plans are structured, if you join under the right person (sponsor), and your sponsor is able to TEACH you a system to retail products that works and that is cash flow POSITIVE (=you can make money), then that sponsor will do whatever he can to help you because he has also a financial incentive to do so.

Now listen, I want to give you my NUMBER 1 ADVICE that I hope you will at least consider BEFORE you join any network marketing business: chose your SPONSOR (=the person you sign up with) VERY VERY wisely.

Why?

Because depending on who you sign up with, you will be either taught how to do your network marketing business as if you were still in 1980....or you will be taught how to do the business in 2008
Aren't you tired of trying to sell products to your own family? Wouldn't you like to start talking ONLY to qualified prospects, people that have REQUESTED what you have to sell? It might seem like a dream world, but that is how I do my business, using innovative marketing technologies that allow me to be extremely productive in what I do and focus only on people that are worth my time. You see, in a way having a Network Marketing business makes things very easy: the manufacturer of the products you will sell takes care of giving you top products (most of the times they will even put them in a box and ship them for you!). Your only job is to get a customer and to make sure he/she gets the RESULTS she is looking for.

If you're looking to make some extra money, are motivated and determined, I personally believe that network marketing is a very fair business to be in. It is an 100% meritocratic business model: you can earn money by retailing products but the serious incomes are made by teaching other people how to build a solid, ethic business from home.

My story as an Independent Herbalife Distributor.

My family has always been in business: from manufacturing lights to electricians, from unplanned real estate investors to taylors, from hairdressers to restaurant owners.

As a consequence, when I finished my education, I wanted to start a business, but I didnt know which one.

So I started reading books. I am an avid avid reader. The writer that has influenced my business life the most is without a doubt Robert Kyiosaki, the author of the very famour "Rich Dad, Pood Dad" book serie. I even bought his board game ($500+...) and I can not tell you how great his ideas are. I really trusted whatever Robert said in his books because, as I was putting in practice all his teachings, I realized that they really worked.

Up until then if ANYBODY would have asked me to join a Network Marketing opportunity, I would have run away like a sprinter!

But then I read another of his books titled "The Business School for People who Like Helping other People", where he explains exactly what Network Marketing really is. Robert endorses Network Marketing because he believes that a Network Marketing Business really is a "B Quadrant" Business (read his other book "Rich Dad's Cash Flow Quadrants" to understand more).

So, I became very curious about Network Marketing.

To me, up until then, "Network Marketing" meant "Nadia", who is a woman that lives in my hometown and who has been doing Herbalife for more than 15 years.

So my obvious next step was to talk to her. Now, this is KEY point. I decided to talk to her. She did not come to me. I was more than ready to be SOLD, because I was informed about what to expect from network marketing.

Then I started using the Herbalife products for weight loss, I started selling products and I was quite successful.

But I wanted to build something bigger. I wanted to have an International business.

So I kept reading and reading....while implementing every single idea I had into my Herbalife business.

Over the years, I understood (the hard way) that one key element of a business is that if you can develop a SYSTEM that is REPLICABLE, that anybody with the right attitude, determination and drive can do, then you are going to help so many people in achieving their dreams that becomes natural for you to be a successful business man.

You see, in Herbalife I have also met a great man called Jim Rohn. He says something that really is in my head every single day. He says that there are many ways for you to get rich: you can be a crook, you can be a thief, you can marry a rich person, or you can build a business and help other people to achieve their dreams. Jim tells you to be VERY CAREFUL of the PERSON THAT YOU BECOME in the process of getting rich. Think about it. When you pass away, do you want to be remembered for the person that stole money or do you want to be loved because you have helped so many people to improve their health and wealth?

I chose the second route. Which one do you want to choose?

But as I said, I needed to develop a SYSTEM. I was convinced that if I could have developed a SYSTEM that anybody could have implemented, than there would have been no limits to the amount of people I could have helped.

Why do you think that McDonalds or Starbucks are so successful? Because they have developed a system that, if implemented correctly, it works and its outcomes are predictable.
